Tajemnicze ,,życie" obrazów mentalnych/psychicznych (The Mysterious Life of Mental Paintings)

Paintings may be categorized into two groups; material paintings (paintings on canvas, a reflection in a glass or photography) which exist in the area of our perception or paintings based on the matter of our mind (mental paintings) and processes occurring in the mind. Supposedly, the area of those representations is narrow. Actually it is not. Certainly we can state that the majority of our lives happen around the area of these paintings. That huge family of mental  paintings has been adequately classified and studied in a specific way. In the first place, I think about Jean-Jacques Wunenburger (Philosophy of Images) and Jean-Paul Sartre (The Imaginary). In this post I would like to briefly present the main ideas of those prominent figures who managed to grasp them in an interesting way and whose concepts completely dominated our inner lives.

Obrazy percepcyjne jawią się ,,tu i teraz" (in praesentia), równocześnie w stosunku do bodźców zmysłowych. Można by rzec, że w takim układzie należą do strefy obrazów materialnych.

The trinity of mental paintings is based on the followings group: perceptual, memory and anticipatory paintings. There are another three important groups: unconscious, language and matrix paintings. It is the theory formulated by Wunenburger. The main difference between the first three types of painting is the time they refer to. Perceptual paintings appears here and now (in praesentia) simultaneously in relation to sensorial impulses. In other words, we may suppose that they belong to the area of visual paintings. Surely yes, however not all of them. For instance optical illusions, hallucinations and after - images do not rank as perceptual paintings, but they are regarded as colourable perception which certainly refers to in praesentia.

Niektóre wspomnienia potrafią jawić się z mocą obrazu oglądanego ,,tu i teraz" (pamięć ejdetyczna). Większość  jednak zatraca swoje pierwotne kształty. Z tymi obrazami wiążą się przeróżne emocje. Wspomnienia tworzą nasze życie oraz budują nasze doświadczenie.

Memory paintings refer to the past. Those paintings have different intensity and depend on different factors. Certain memories can appear with a strength of a painting watched here and now (eidetic memory). However, most of them lose their primary form. Moreover, various emotions are attached to those paintings. Memories create our lives and build our experience.

Anticipatory paintings refer to the past. It is in a way a simulation, which is projected thanks to imagination. Sometimes, they are real plans which are possible to achieve, or projects completely out of reality. There are different motives: strong desires, necessity to act or a need to know. This kind of mental painting is probably the most relevant in human life. “They often refer to a missing content expected with hope by the subject. "Those mental projections can also be used to create other possible worlds and parallel lives, which often find its escape in literature.

The second group of metal paintings is much more complex. Wunenburger describes them as a prism of specific representations, that is why their structure is much more complicated:

Unconscious painting is basically phantasm, dreams and daydreams. All those paintings are not liable to the control of the subject and are very relevant in our lives because they assure psychological control of representations. We shall pay attention to the fact that those paintings penetrate to the conscious world. Hypnagogic paintings belong to a group of very interesting physiological phenomenons. In other words they are very clear projections of representations – usually summarizing the previous day – which happen before falling asleep. At the same time, this phenomenon is a natural transition from the stage of complete consciousness to dream.

Obraz językowy to artykułowany system znaków fonetycznych i graficznych. Obraz ten operuje różnymi figurami (in.tropami) takimi jak: metafora, porównanie, parabola, alegoria, bajka, ilustracja, metonimia, synekdocha etc.

Language paintings are formulated with the system of phonetic and graphic signs. This type of paintings is very large. Their function is to express contents, emotions, thoughts with the help of the letters of alphabets, ideograms and hieroglyphs. Moreover, this kind of painting uses different figures (tracks), for instance, metaphors, comparisons, parabolas, allegories, fairy tales, illustrations, metonymy, synecdoche, etc.

Pozostały obrazy najgłębiej w nas zakorzenione, mianowicie: obrazy matrycowe. Fundament naszego światopoglądu, matryca utkwiona w nieświadomości każdego człowieka na świecie. Poprzez pryzmat tych obrazów kształtuje się reszta pozostałych. Należy wyróżnić tutaj: archetypy, schematy, stereotypy oraz typy.

The last type of the mental paintings is the most rooted in ourselves, matrix paintings. It creates the foundation of our outlook of life, the matrix based in unconsciousness in every single human being. The other mental paintings are created through the prism of matrix paintings. We can distinguish the following categories:  schemes, stereotypes and types
